On Saturday 12 April, on the occasion of the visit to London of our Patron, Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa ofm, the Franciscan Custodian of the Holy Land, a gala dinner was organised by the TERRA SANCTA EDUCATION TRUST in the crypt of St. Etheldreda’s Church, Ely Place, in the City of London. The gala dinner was preceded by mass at St. Etheldreda’s and by a champagne reception. The sumptuous three course dinner with wine was followed by an after dinner talk by Father Pizzaballa on the Christian presence in the Holy Land today, and on the Franciscan role in supporting the Christian communities of the Holy Land since the Middle Ages. Born in Bergamo, Italy, in 1965, Pierbattista Pizzaballa was ordained to the priesthood in 1990. He is a renowned expert in Old Testament studies and a professor at the Studium Biblicum in Jerusalem. He has lived in the Holy Land for many years, having studied at the Hebrew University.
