 Peace Marathon

The Interfaith Peace Marathon, also known as the “John Paul II Marathon of Peace”, takes place every year around Easter between Bethlehem and Jerusalem. The 10km course runs from the Nativity Church in Bethlehem, via Rachel's Tomb, to the Old City of Jerusalem. It is an initiative of the Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi, the pilgrimage organiser attached to the Vatican, in cooperation with the Israeli Ministry of Tourism and the Jerusalem Municipality.

The 2007 and 2008 Marathons included, amongst its participants, Israeli and Palestinian runners, and senior members of the Catholic clergy, both from the Vatican and from the Holy Land itself.

Christians, Jews and Muslims run together
to demonstrate mutual respect

Members of the TERRA SANCTA EDUCATION TRUST team have been involved with the Peace Marathon since 2007.

The Peace Marathon is an event open to all, independent of religious affiliation or athletic ability. For Christians, it can be an integral part of a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, and combined with visits to the holy sites in Bethlehem and Jerusalem.

The sixth annual John Paul II Marathon for Peace will be held on 23 April 2009.

The TERRA SANCTA EDUCATION TRUST is inviting its friends and benefactors to join in the 2009 Interfaith Peace Marathon as a sponsorship event, to raise money for the orphanage at the shrine of Our Lady of the Mountains, Anjara, northern Jordan.

Contact us for more information on how to take part in the 2009 Interfaith Peace Marathon.
